A Deck of Cards
With the presence of video games and other highly advanced toys, parents often forget the fun that kids can derive from a deck of cards. Cards can be played in different ways, and children and adults alike can join. If you were to let young kids play card games, you should go for those that do not have complicated rules. Just bring out the cards and let the fun begin!
Cards do not just provide fun, they also teach valuable skills like math and memory. Pair game, for example, would enhance players' memory skills as they take turns in finding the right pairs among face-down cards. Hat trick is also great in improving concentration and coordination skills. Each player is given turns in trying to toss cards into a stiff hat while standing six feet away. The player who tosses the most number of cards inside the hat wins. Another exciting game of concentration is building houses with cards. Assign a suit to each of four players and give them the entire bundle of cards with the same suit. Let each player put the cards together to form a structure or house. The player whose house falls down last wins. A deck of cards can also be used as math flash cards, where kids can be taught the principles of adding, subtracting, multiplying or dividing numbers. Just have the children face you while you take out two cards at a time in front of them. Aces stand for number 1, while kings, queens and jacks for number 10. Decide whether the game is about addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
There are other card games fit for children, just search the Internet for useful tips.
